About The Fantasy Football Nerd
There are 3 absolute truths in this world.
- None of us will live forever
- You will have to pay taxes
- There are smarter Fantasy Football experts out there than you
I can't promise you eternal life, nor can I help you escape your tax responsibilities. What I can help with is bringing all the best Fantasy Football expert advice into one place so that you have a better chance to be smarter than the "experts".
If places like Kayak and Sidestep are the best aggregators of travel sites, FantasyFootballNerd.com aims to be the best aggregator of fantasy football advice. If you're like I was, you'll do your fantasy research on your computer with several tabs open (if your browser doesn't have tabs, upgrade your browser *** FireFox Recommended ***). I've spent countless hours switching between tabs trying to compare projections from the various experts. It's easy to forget what I read just 20 minutes ago. FantasyFootballNerd.com was born so that I could see all of this in one place. I figured as long as I've spent this much time creating it, I might as well share it. After all, my leagues are already filled so you won't be competing against me. I used a slimmed down version of FantasyFootballNerd a few years ago for one of my drafts and it was very helpful (particularly in the later rounds!).
Technology projects have been born out of garages, basements, and college dorm rooms (ie, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Mark Zuckerberg). I don't work out of the garage (too cold in winter), the basement (not finished yet), or a dorm room (would love to go back to college!!!), but I do pound out code on the notebook while sitting on the couch (much more comfortable). Editor's Note: Yes, I know it's a tad early to start the comparisons to the folks listed above.
FantasyFootballNerd.com is completely free for all those who choose to use it. The site runs on the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) with a little AJAX thrown in for good measure (I love jquery!). On this platform is where NerdRank was born, the technology created to bring the wisdom of the crowd into a manageable environment. NerdRank is what makes FFN so unique. Anyone can aggregate rankings and projections and then average them out, but that would only give you (and me!) a skewed picture. NerdRank is a results-oriented process for normalizing the rankings and projections.
Keep a few things in mind though. It can't predict the future. The 2008 rankings listed Tom Brady as a Top 5 pick. Obviously, nobody anticipated a season-ending injury for him. The experts take the best data that they have and make a decision based upon that data. Sunday in the NFL is unpredictable. Some guys will go off and some guys will tank. It happens every week. FFN provides a glimpse into what should happen under the anticipated circumstances. If I were able to predict the future, the government would have me squirreled away in some remote location doing their bidding!
FantasyFootballNerd.com is still a baby - so I'm always interested in hearing what works and what doesn't. I want to hear how FFN works for you so shoot me an email at nerd@fantasyfootballnerd.com and give me your thoughts.
Have a great season!
