Anderson scheduled to visit Seattle and Arizona
Mar 10, 2010
Derek Anderson will meet with the Seahawks on Thursday and the Cardinals on Friday, according to ESPN.com.
Fantasy Analysis
Anderson has the size and strength of a prototypical starting quarterback, though he's simply been awful since his breakout 2007 campaign. While he'd have an outside shot to compete for a starting gig if he landed in either Seattle or Arizona, he'd more likely serve as a backup to either Matt Hasselbeck or Matt Leinart.
Becht re-signs with Cardinals
Mar 10, 2010
The Cardinals have re-signed Anthony Becht to a one-year, $950,000 deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Analysis
Becht will get a chance to compete for a starting job at tight end in training camp with a number of other candidates, though none of them will be worth a look in fantasy leagues.
Browns dangling Quinn on the market
Mar 10, 2010
The Browns have put Brady Quinn firmly on the trading block, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Analysis
The Browns released Derek Anderson yesterday, and it looks like Mike Holmgren and company may not be finished cleaning house. Whether or not Quinn ends up getting dealt, it's looking like the Browns are willing to go into next season with Seneca Wallace as their starting quarterback.
Coats re-signs with Bengals
Mar 10, 2010
The Bengals have re-signed Daniel Coats, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy.
Fantasy Analysis
Coats is a blocking tight end who is unlikely to ever make any sort of fantasy impact.
Derek Anderson hates Cleveland's fans
Mar 10, 2010
After being released by the Browns on Tuesday, Derek Anderson hurled some grenades at the team's fans, according to the News-Herald. "The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," he said. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."
Fantasy Analysis
In Anderson's defense, Cleveland's fans are a rowdy bunch. In that rowdy bunch's defense, Anderson was borderline historically awful as his time in Ohio wound down.
Eagles ink Jackson to two-year contract
Mar 10, 2010
The Eagles signed Marlin Jackson to a two-year deal on Wednesday, according to PhillyBurbs.com.
Fantasy Analysis
Jackson will be given a chance to compete for the starting free safety spot in Philadelphia next season. Jackson is a talented defensive back who, if healthy, could prove to be a shrewd signing by the Eagles.
Johnson will also visit with Raiders
Mar 10, 2010
Updating an earlier report, Larry Johnson is also scheduled to meet with the Raiders this week in addition to his meeting with the Redskins, according to NFL.com.
Fantasy Analysis
On one hand, the Raiders already have a bruising back in Michael Bush to complement Darren McFadden, but on the other, Al Davis has always shown a penchant for signing former stars with character issues. Not to get too personal here, but LJ seems like the type of player that would not care about whether or not he's playing for a contender who would simply take the highest contract he can get, and thus the Raiders could be a fit.
Kemoeatu inks two-year deal with Washington
Mar 10, 2010
Maake Kemoeatu and the Redskins have agreed to a two-year, $7 million deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Analysis
Kemoeatu missed all of last season with an Achilles injury but has the potential to anchor the middle of Washington's 3-4 defense. He could serve as Albert Haynesworth's backup, or allow Haynesworth to move to end if the Redskins feel comfortable starting Kemoeatu.
LT's visit to Minnesota could end with contract
Mar 10, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson will be in Minnesota to meet with the Vikings on Thursday, and if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, he could be announced as a Viking shortly thereafter, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Fantasy Analysis
This news shouldn't really come as too big of a surprise; whenever a free agent meets with a team, if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, a contract agreement will inherently be reached. Still, it looks like LT to the Vikings is becoming more and more of a realistic happening, as Minnesota has identified him as their No. 1 target to replace Chester Taylor as their third-down back and backup to Adrian Peterson. The ball now appears to be in Tomlinson's court.
Mare signs franchise tender
Mar 10, 2010
Olindo Mare has signed his franchise tender, according to NFL insider Adam Caplan.
Fantasy Analysis
As a result, he'll make $2.814 million this next season. The veteran had a fine season in 2009 and should continue to be a borderline fantasy commodity.
Mason staying put?
Mar 10, 2010
According to Jason La Canfora on Twitter, free agent wideout Derrick Mason is likely to remain with the Ravens.
Fantasy Analysis
La Canfora thinks that there is still a good chance of this happening despite all the moves the Ravens have made at the position already. He'll likely get a one-year deal because of his age, but there is legit interest between his former club, the Pats and the Dolphins.
Prater re-signs
Mar 10, 2010
According to the Denver Post, the Broncos have re-signed free agent kicker Matt Prater.
Fantasy Analysis
Prater has a big leg, but has struggled with consistency in the past. He turned a corner last year though, hitting 30-of-35 attempts and making every extra point try. He should be a solid option in fantasy leagues as long as his consistency remains.
Randle El wants third wideout spot
Mar 10, 2010
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Antwaan Randle El claims that he was promised a shot at the third WR spot on the Steelers next season.
Fantasy Analysis
Randle El signed a three-year deal yesterday, but the Steelers were likely just being cordial when they said he could try out for the number-three wideout spot. There's no chance he'll beat out rising talent Mike Wallace, and will likely settle in at the fourth spot if he can impress more than Arnaz Battle.
Redskins to host Johnson on Thursday
Mar 10, 2010
Larry Johnson is scheduled to meet with the Redskins tomorrow, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Analysis
While LJ is no longer starting material, he did prove in last season's stint with the Bengals that he's still capable of being effective in a platoon role. Washington is in need of a backup for Clinton Portis, and while you'd think that they'd look for someone a bit younger than Johnson, we'll have to wait and see how the visit goes.
Seattle inquiring about McNabb and Kolb
Mar 10, 2010
The Seahawks have apparently been contacting the Eagles non-stop with inquiries for either Donovan McNabb or Kevin Kolb, according to Pro Football Talk.
Fantasy Analysis
The Eagles have apparently yet to entertain any offers and have publicly stated that they plan to hold on to both quarterbacks (as well as Michael Vick), though you have to believe they'll start to at least consider proposals as the NFL draft approaches next month. As far as Seattle goes, it looks like Pete Carroll and company do not view Matt Hasselbeck as the answer at quarterback this upcoming season.
Smith signs with Kansas City
Mar 10, 2010
Shaun Smith has signed with the Chiefs, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Fantasy Analysis
Smith will look to make Kansas City's roster as a backup defensive tackle.
Titans land Witherspoon
Mar 10, 2010
According to Jeffrey McLane on Twitter, linebacker Will Witherspoon has agreed to terms on a contract with the Tennessee Titans.
Fantasy Analysis
Witherspoon spent time with the Rams and Eagles last season and piled up 91 total tackles as a middle linebacker. He is versatile enough to play all three LB spots for the Titans, which means his IDP stock could go back up if he sees time at weak-side, where he has been more successful in his career.
