Dez Bryant Fantasy Analysis

  • "Real shot" Bryant returns Week 7
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said Monday that there's a "real shot" WR Dez Bryant (foot) returns after the Week 6 bye.  He had a checkup late last week that showed "no setbacks," according to Jones.  This still seems like an optimistic timetable -- it'd be just 6 weeks after he went down -- but it at least sounds like Bryant's rehab is going well.  He's worth adding now if he was dropped in your league. • Bryant back for Week 7?
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones believes WR Dez Bryant could be back after the team's Week 6 bye.  "Our prognosis has never changed," Jones said. "I know there have been a lot of people who have doctors on their media staff and like to speculate on these things, but we've been pretty consistent from Day One. At first we thought maybe four to six [weeks] and that changed to six to eight. By the next day we were pretty much thinking six to eight.  We really feel like it's a very fair goal to think that Dez will be back after the bye."  Dallas' Week 7 game against the Giants is on October 25th.  That'd be just 6 weeks after he had surgery.  It seems like an optimistic timetable, but we'll continue to keep close tabs on Bryant's progress. • Bryant expected to miss 10-12 weeks after surgery
Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) is now expected to miss 10-12 weeks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  Bryant ended up needing a bone graft when he underwent surgery on Monday.  That's supposed to improve Bryant's long-term outlook, but it also lengthens the timeline for his 2015 return.  The 10-week absence would have him back for Dallas' Week 11 game against the Dolphins.  The longer end would have him out until Week 13 vs. the Redskins.  The Cowboys aren't sticking Bryant on IR designated for return, so he's eligible to come back as soon as he's ready.  But owners shouldn't be counting on him until the very end of the fantasy football regular season.  We'd hang on to Bryant if you have a deep bench or IR spot.  But he'll be tough to carry in shallower leagues when the bye weeks start to hit. • Jones: Bryant out at least 6 weeks
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said WR Dez Bryant's broken foot will take 6 weeks to "fully heal."  Consider that the new short end of Bryant's timetable.  It jibes with ESPN's Chris Mortensen's report that Bryant will be sidelined 6-8 weeks.  So Week 8 against Seattle looks like his earliest return date. • Cowboys expect Bryant to miss 6-8 weeks
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that the Cowboys are expecting WR Dez Bryant (foot) to miss 6-8 weeks.  He underwent successful surgery on Monday.  That timeline seems more realistic than the original report of 4-6 weeks.  The short end of the new timetable would put Bryant back on the field for Week 8 against Seattle.  The longer end would keep him out until Dallas' Week 10 meeting with the Bucs.  In between is what figures to be a big game against the Eagles.  Bryant owners need to prepare to be without him for at least the 1st half of the season -- and realize that he'll be a high injury risk when he returns.
