Golden Tate Fantasy Analysis

  • Lions picking up the pace
The Lions plan on speeding up their offensive tempo and running more no-huddle this season. "The faster you can push the tempo when you want to, makes it more stressful on the defense," QB Matt Stafford said. "If you feel like you're playing at normal speed and they think you're playing really fast you know it feels a whole lot better for us." Per Pro Football Focus, Detroit has gone no-huddle on 62% of their offensive snaps. That's up from 7% last year. "The biggest reason we're going to do so well this year is this is something Matt is very comfortable with," WR Golden Tate said. "This is something he's wanted, he's thriving in this right now, he's (balling), he's comfortable." A quicker pace means more offensive plays and more fantasy opportunity for all the Lions. • Jones the #1 WR?
Lions insider Kyle Meinke believes Marvin Jones is the team's #1 WR. "It is prized free-agent acquisition Marvin Jones who looks like the club's top wideout. And in recent days, it hasn't been all that close," Meinke writes. QB Matt Stafford reportedly targeted Jones with 7 of his 14 passes in Tuesday's joint practice with the Steelers. Jones caught 6 of those. We're not completely buying Jones as the #1, though. It makes sense for Stafford to focus on building chemistry with Jones in August. He already has it with Tate, who has hauled in 189 of 272 targets over the past 2 seasons. We're still betting on Tate leading Detroit in catches and fantasy points this year. But we'll keep an eye on Jones' role over the next month. If nothing else, he looks like a nice value in the 8th or 9th round of drafts. Full Story

  • Ebron might have Achilles' tear
Lions TE Eric Ebron got carted off the practice field Saturday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the team fears an injury to his Achilles' tendon, with a tear being the obvious implication. If that proves to be the case, Ebron would almost certainly miss the season. We'll keep an eye out for confirmation, but you should count Ebron out of your plan if you're drafting right now. Detroit sports no obvious immediate replacement for Ebron at TE, so his injury would likely shift more targets toward RB Theo Riddick and the wideouts. Full Story
