Joique Bell Fantasy Analysis

  • Bell working with the starters
Lions RB Joique Bell ran with the 1st-team offense in his return to practice on Monday. "I did everything with the ones," Bell said. "I was limited, as far as reps, but I did everything. Everything from team blitz to regular team."  Consider this a case of veteran deference.  This is Bell's 4th year with Detroit, while his backfield competition consists of a couple of rookies.  "Bell remains the Lions' No. 1 tailback ? for now, at least," insider Kyle Meinke writes.  Touches remain up for grabs in this backfield, and our money is on the fresh, explosive Ameer Abdullah winning the majority of them this season.  Bell might even lose some work to rookie Zach Zenner, who's been ultra-impressive this preseason.  The Lions RB situation will be worth tracking closely early on this season. • Bell finally ready to practice
Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles) was activated from the PUP list and is expected to practice on Monday.  He's been sidelined all offseason after undergoing what must have been significant knee and Achilles surgeries.  Detroit has consistently said that Bell will remain a big part of the offense in 2015, but we'll have to see what kind of shape he's in.  If nothing else, he'll be pushed hard for touches by rookies Ameer Abdullah and Zach Zenner.  Bell's ADP is sitting in the 8th round, but it's tough to get excited about him even there. • Bell no lock for Week 1
Lions RB Joique Bell continues to progress in his return from offseason knee surgery, MLive.com reports, but he won't play at all in the preseason and is not guaranteed to return in time for the regular-season opener. "It's based off how I feel," Bell said. "As of right now, I'm still playing it by ear. We'll see what happens next week." Bell has played all but 1 game for the Lions over the past 3 years, so they don't need to see anything particular from him in preseason game action. It's also tough to expect him to return to a full role, though, without at least some full practice time before the season. We'll see how the next couple of weeks go. Bell's an OK chance to take at his current mid-8th round ADP but too iffy to be a target in fantasy football drafts. Full Story

  • Abdullah maintains momentum in preseason opener
Lions RB Ameer Abdullah dazzled in Thursday night's preseason opener.  Working with both the 1st and 2nd-team offenses, the rookie ripped off 67 yards on 7 carries.  The highlight was this sick 45-yarder that displayed his ankle-breaking ability and impressive burst.  Abdullah's big debut follows a buzz-filled start to training camp.  RB Joique Bell -- whenever he gets healthy -- is going to have a tough time holding off Abdullah for touches.  The rookie continues to climb our RB rankings and is worth drafting as a RB2 with upside.  We'll have to see how high his ADP climbs. • Bell nearing return
Lions RB Joique Bell "put in some good work with a trainer on the side" Friday, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. That reportedly included cutting and stopping-and-starting. Meinke said Bell moved "deliberately" and that he's not expected to play in Thursday's preseason opener. But Meinke also said he wouldn't be surprised if Bell returned to practice next week. The veteran RB, of course, said in the offseason that he'd be ready for the start of camp -- but wasn't. We'll see how things progress from here. Rookie Ameer Abdullah has had some time to impress while Bell has been sidelined. Full Story
