Ryan Mallett Fantasy Analysis

  • Mallett will start Week 5
Texans HC Bill O'Brien announced Monday that QB Ryan Mallett will start Thursday night's game against the Colts.  It's a tad surprising after Mallett was yanked in Week 4 and QB Brian Hoyer tossed 2 TDs in mop-up duty.  Of course, those roles were reversed back in Week 1.  Houston is going with what it believes is the lesser of 2 evils.  Of course, Mallett should remain a safe distance from all fantasy lineups. • Mallett benched in 3rd quarter
Texans QB Ryan Mallett was benched in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Falcons.  He completed just 12 of 27 passes for 150 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT.  QB Brian Hoyer will finish out the game.  We'll see who Houston rolls with Thursday night against the Colts, but neither guy will be a fantasy option. • Mallett expected to start Week 2
The Texans will start QB Ryan Mallett against the Panthers this weekend, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  After QB Brian Hoyer struggled and was benched in the 4th quarter of the opener, Mallett sparked the offense with a TD drive.  He's still not a fantasy option.  But the switch looks like good news for WR DeAndre Hopkins.  Mallett has a bigger arm than Hoyer and targeted Hopkins on 4 of his 13 throws last week.  All 4 were completed for a total of 51 yards. • Texans not announcing starting QB
Texans HC Bill O'Brien declined to name his Week 2 starting QB on Monday.  "You'll have to wait until the first play of the Carolina game," O'Brien said.  The fact that he didn't re-commit to QB Brian Hoyer has us thinking that QB Ryan Mallett will get the nod.  He certainly out-played Hoyer in the opener.  Neither Texans QB is a fantasy option, but DeAndre Hopkins owners should be hoping for the big-armed Mallett. • Hoyer benched
Texans QB Brian Hoyer was benched in the 4th quarter of Sunday's opener.  He completed just 18 of 34 passes (52.9%) for 236 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT and 1 fumble lost.  QB Ryan Mallett entered and immediately tossed a TD to WR DeAndre Hopkins.  He finished 8 for 14 for 98 yards and a score.  We'll see who Houston goes with for Week 2, but this remains a situation to avoid in fantasy football.
