Robert Griffin III Fantasy Analysis

  • NFL coach: RG3 is "done"
An anonymous offensive coach told ESPN's Mike Sando that Redskins QB Robert Griffin is "done."  The coach explained, "The [knee] injury slowed his legs, and his ego will not allow him to hit rock bottom and actually grind his way back up the right way."  There's been some positive buzz on RG3 this offseason, but a collection of 35 NFL coaches and executives isn't buying it.  It ranked Griffin 28th among the league's 32 starting QBs -- ahead of only Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer, Matt Cassel and Geno Smith.  We're still not throwing in the towel on RG3 as a fantasy option because of his rushing ability, even if it is diminished.  Plus, it only costs a late-round pick to take a shot on him.  But it's plenty possibility that he busts again in 2015 and eventually flames out of the league. • Gruden "excited" about Griffin's progress
Redskins HC Jay Gruden again talked up QB Robert Griffin this week.  Gruden said he's "excited" about the progress RG3 has made this offseason.  "The more he gets around our terminology and understands it and learns it and can see it against different coverages, the better he is going to be," Gruden said. "And he has shown improvement in the OTAs, which is exciting.  He has taken over the leadership role and done some good things. He's just got to continue improve. And we've got to be patient with him. There are going to be some bumps and bruises along the way, but I think we'll be okay as long as we stay patient."  We'll wait until the pads go on in August before getting too excited about Griffin's bounce-back potential.  But there's little risk in taking a shot on him at his current 16th-round ADP.
