Adrian Peterson Fantasy Analysis

  • Peterson likely done for the season
Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has decided to undergo surgery to repair his torn meniscus, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. He's expected to be sidelined at least 3-4 months and maybe as many as 6. Even the short end of that timetable would keep him out until late December. Minnesota's Week 15 game is on December 8; Week 16 on December 24. The Vikings might place Peterson on IR with the designated-to-return tag, but he'll very likely miss the rest of the fantasy football season. Go ahead and drop Peterson from rosters. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will handle backfield duties for as long as AP is out. Insider Matt Vensel expects a 65-35 split in favor of McKinnon. Full Story

  • Peterson has a torn meniscus
Vikings HC Mike Zimmer announced that RB Adrian Peterson has a torn meniscus. He didn't provide a timetable for return but wouldn't rule out Peterson for this weekend's game against the Panthers. Dr. David Chao, a former head NFL team physician, tweets that "medically" he'd "dismiss the idea" of Peterson being able to play on Sunday. Chao adds that if the meniscus needs sewing or repair, Peterson could still miss the rest of the season. Football Guys' Jene Bramel believes Peterson could be back in 3-4 weeks if he decides to remove the meniscus rather than repair it. So this remains a murky situation for now. Hang on to Peterson in fantasy leagues, but Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata both need to be rostered. Full Story

  • Peterson's injury might not be season-ending
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole hears that there's "confidence" that Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's knee injury isn't season-ending. "Source said there is some ligament damage for Adrian Peterson, MRI [Monday] will show how much," Cole adds. AP was on crutches and in a big knee brace after the game, but HC Mike Zimmer echoed Cole's optimism. "He might miss a week. I don't know if he will or not," Zimmer said. "Whatever it was has calmed down now, so we'll see." We should learn more about Peterson's status later today. Full Story
