Bishop Sankey Fantasy Analysis

  • Cobb out with calf injury
Titans RB David Cobb is dealing with a calf injury and won't play in the team's 3rd preseason game, per insider Jim Wyatt.  It's a poorly timed injury for Cobb, who had just started pushing RB Bishop Sankey for the lead job.  Sankey can take command of that role with a solid showing against the Chiefs on Friday night.  But this backfield will still likely end up as a committee. • Cobb to out-carry Sankey?
Titans insider Paul Kuharsky believes RB David Cobb "will prove the better back and wind up with more carries" than RB Bishop Sankey.  It's just one man's opinion, and Kuharksy expects this backfield to be a committee.  But it's certainly possible that Cobb emerges as Tennessee's lead ball-carrier.  He's impressed in camp recently and was the team's best RB in the preseason opener.  Sankey, meanwhile, is coming off a disappointing rookie year and averaged just 1.9 yards on 8 carries in the 1st exhibition.  Cobb is expected to see time with the starters in the 2nd preseason game.  A strong performance there could vault him to the top of the depth chart. • Cobb will play with starters in preseason
Titans RB David Cobb will get 1st-team reps at some point this preseason.  "Based on what you saw Friday night, I certainly think Cobb deserves that, we'll work him in," HC Ken Whisenhunt said "The young man had to get in shape first. That's been a process just because of the [offseason] quad injury.  But he did a really nice job and we'll move him up in the rotation as the weeks progress."  The rookie was Tennessee's best RB in the opener, busting off 53 yards on 11 carries.  Bishop Sankey is still the favorite to open the season as the lead back, but Cobb is capable of beating him out for those honors. • Cobb outplays Sankey in preseason opener
Titans RB David Cobb clearly outplayed RB Bishop Sankey in Friday night's preseason  opener.  The rookie took 11 carries for 53 yards.  Sankey managed just 15 yards on his 8 totes.  It's certainly worth noting that Cobb didn't get into the game until the 2nd half and got all of his work with the 2nd and 3rd-team offenses.  Sankey ran exclusively with the 1s.  But Cobb looked like Tennessee's best RB in this one.  We'll see if he can continue to push Sankey for playing time. • RB-by-committee in Tennessee?
Titans insider Paul Kuharsky expects a backfield by committee this season. Bishop Sankey and David Cobb will be the leaders of that committee, according to Kuharsky, with Dexter McCluster and potentially Antonio Andrews also mixing in. Sankey and Cobb would seem to form a nice duo, with the former handling the outside runs and pass-catching duties and the latter serving as the between-the-tackles, short-yardage back. Of course, that setup would make both guys tough to trust in fantasy lineups. We'll continue to keep an eye on this backfield over the next month to see if 1 guy emerges as a true feature back.
