Tony Romo Fantasy Analysis

  • Romo placed on IR designated for return
The Cowboys have placed QB Tony Romo (collarbone) on IR designated for return.  It guarantees that he won't be back until Week 11.  And he might be out longer than that.  Romo isn't worth stashing outside of very deep leagues or leagues with an IR spot.  QB Brandon Weeden will look to play game-manager for Dallas until Romo returns. • Romo expected to miss 8 weeks
The early timetable for Cowboys QB Tony Romo's return is 8 weeks, according to Pro Football Talk.  He won't have surgery on his fractured left collarbone.  It's the same spot Romo was in back in 2010, when he ended up missing the final 10 weeks of the season.  Dallas had fallen out of playoff contention then, though, which might have played a part in Romo's extended absence.  QB Aaron Rodgers missed 7 weeks with a broken collarbone in 2013.  The 8-week timeline would have Romo back for the Cowboys' Week 11 game against the Dolphins.  That'd mean he'd be available for the final few weeks of the fantasy football regular season and then the playoffs.  Romo gets plus matchups against the Redskins and Packers in Weeks 13 and 14 but draws the Jets and Bills in Weeks 15 and 16.  He's a fine stash in leagues with an IR spot.  But he'll be tough to carry otherwise.  Romo owners are better off dropping him and playing matchups at the position the rest of the way. • Romo fractures collarbone
Cowboys QB Tony Romo exited in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Eagles with what appeared to be a left shoulder injury.  It could also be a collarbone issue, which Romo has dealt with in the past.  He was taken back to the locker room with the training staff.  QB Brandon Weeden will take over for as long as Romo is out.Update: Romo has a fractured collarbone.  It's the same injury he suffered back in 2010.  He didn't need surgery then and missed the final 10 weeks of the season.  Packers QB Aaron Rodgers missed 7 weeks with the same injury in 2013.  Dr. David Chao, a former NFL head team physician, says Romo's best case is a return in 4-6 weeks.  The worst case is 10-12.
