Tony Romo Fantasy Analysis

  • Romo progressing well
Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that "everything is looking great" in QB Tony Romo's recovery from his August back injury. Romo threw some passes in warm-ups before the Week 2 game at Washington, though the team has yet to give an expected return date. The Oct. 30 meeting with Philadelphia -- which follows the Cowboys' bye -- might be a realistic target. We'll certainly keep an eye for any updates on Romo's status and return. In the meantime, Dak Prescott remains a relevant fantasy QB -- especially in a positive Week 3 home matchup with the Bears. Full Story

  • Romo avoiding IR?
ESPN's Todd Archer reports that the Cowboys are keeping QB Tony Romo on the active roster in hopes that he can return sooner than the 8 games (at least) he'd miss if placed on IR and designated to return. We'll see if this holds this week. Romo's still not worth selecting in most redraft leagues unless you have an IR slot you can stick him in. Full Story

  • Romo expected to hit temporary IR
Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys website reports that the team is expected to place QB Tony Romo on IR/designated to return. That would make the QB eligible to return to practice after 6 weeks and play in a game 2 weeks after his practice return. That stands roughly in line with the expected injury timeline. Look for Romo to miss the 1st half of the season. We'll see beyond that. He's OK to stash in an IR spot but not otherwise worth rostering in common-sized leagues. Full Story

  • Romo to IR-designated-for-return?
Cowboys VP Stephen Jones admits that IR-designated-for-return is an option for QB Tony Romo (back). That move would knock him out for at least the first 8 weeks of the season. Dallas has a Week 7 bye, so it'd mean a minimum of 7 games missed. The Dallas News' David Moore hears that Romo's timetable for return might be closer to 8-10 weeks than the originally reported 6-8. He's scheduled for another MRI this weekend, which will give the team a better idea of his status. We currently have both Romo and Dak Prescott projected to play 8 games. Full Story
