Brian Hoyer Fantasy Analysis

  • Cutler back at practice Wednesday
Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday. That gives him a shot to play this weekend, although we'd still consider him no better than 50-50. Whoever starts at QB for Chicago -- Cutler or Brian Hoyer -- will have spot-start appeal against Detroit's 31st-ranked QB defense. Full Story

  • Cutler inactive
Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is inactive for tonight's game against the Cowboys. Brian Hoyer gets the start but is just a low-end QB2 in fantasy football. Full Story

  • Cutler doubtful for Week 3
Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is listed as doubtful and won't play against the Cowboys on Sunday night. QB Brian Hoyer will draw the start. He's not a fantasy option but should at least be able to keep WR Alshon Jeffery's fantasy value afloat. Full Story

  • Cutler expected to miss 2-3 weeks
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Bears QB Jay Cutler (thumb) is expected to be out 2-3 weeks. "Timeline depends on how he heals over the next 3 days," Rapoport adds. Chicago will turn to QB Brian Hoyer while Cutler is out. He completed 58% of his passes with 31 TDs vs. 20 INTs for the Browns and Texans over the past 2 seasons and might not be a significant downgrade from Cutler. Hoyer won't be more than a low-end QB2, but he's good enough to keep WR Alshon Jeffery in must-start territory. Full Story

  • Cutler played through ligament damage in thumb
Bears QB Jay Cutler played through ligament damage in his right (throwing) thumb during Monday night's loss to the Eagles, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Adam Jahns. Cutler reportedly suffered the injury in Week 1. A source tells Jahns that the injury usually sidelines guys for 3-4 weeks. Cutler left last night's game late in the 3rd quarter after tossing a bad INT. He was wearing a cast on the hand afterward and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday. "I'm concerned," Cutler said after the game. "As a quarterback, you kind of need your right thumb. So I think it was [2011] when I had surgery on this thumb. So we'll see what it is." We'll look for an update on Cutler later today. QB Brian Hoyer would start vs. Dallas on Sunday night if Cutler can't. Full Story
